Phone orders from your POS menu

Zogu takes phone orders from the menu you already keep in your POS, and sends each one straight back into it. Nobody retypes it, and there's no second menu.

What it reads from your POS

Once your location adds the Zogu app, your POS sends us the menu and every change to it. Zogu reads:

  • items, categories, sizes and options, with required choices and follow-on choices
  • prices for items, sizes and options
  • anything hidden online, and items that are pickup-only, delivery-only or have their own hours
  • opening hours, special days and pauses
  • payment types, prep time, descriptions and allergens

Your POS doesn't hold delivery areas, callers' own words for dishes, pronunciations, answers like "Is there parking?" or the greeting, so those live in Zogu. Phone-only hours and an "off for today" switch can be set there too, and take priority. More on matching what callers say and delivery areas.

How fast a change arrives

Every new call uses the latest menu. A call already under way finishes on the menu it started with.

  • Changes to hours and items reach Zogu within seconds.
  • A whole new menu takes a minute or two to settle, so rebuild your menu while you're closed.

When an item is off

Zogu only offers what can be ordered right now, for this kind of order:

Caller: "A pizza please."

Zogu: "We've got the Margherita and the Pepperoni. Which would you like?"

  • Hidden items don't exist for Zogu. Ask for one and you're offered up to three of the same kind, and the miss goes to the Teach page.
  • Outside its hours, or the wrong order type, it says so: "Sorry, the Chicken Wings isn't available for delivery."
  • A pizza whose required choice is all hidden isn't offered.
  • "Same as last time" says what's gone: "Sorry, the Hawaiian Pizza from last time isn't on the menu any more." See returning customers.

On a menu with no cheeseburger, asking for one gets other burgers, never a cheese dish or a meal deal.

How the order reaches your EPOS

After a clear yes to the read-back, Zogu's own code prices each line from your menu, not the AI, and sends:

  • your own items and options, at menu prices
  • requests with no matching option ("no onions") as a line note
  • the caller's name and number
  • pickup or delivery, with address and fee for your own drivers
  • an unpaid flag, with Zogu as the source

If the lines don't add up to the total, nothing is sent and the caller hears an apology. Then Zogu gives the total and ready time, says goodbye and hangs up. Your accept or reject updates the call record later; the caller isn't told. See how Zogu takes a phone order.

The POS systems it works with

Zogu works with Toast, Square, Clover, Oracle MICROS RES 3700 and Foodhub, and reads your menu straight from your POS.

Setting it up

  1. Your restaurant connects Zogu to its POS.
  2. Your POS sends us the location, menus and hours.
  3. We link it in Zogu's console and give it its own phone number.
  4. If you deliver, we add your delivery areas.

The console shows your menu exactly as Zogu reads it. See Zogu for UK takeaways, Zogu for US restaurants or the Zogu FAQ.

Questions and answers

Do I have to type my menu into Zogu?

No. Zogu reads it from your POS and follows your changes. Only things your POS doesn't hold, like delivery areas, are set up on our side.

I've run out of something mid-service. How do I stop Zogu offering it?

Hide it in your POS and new calls won't offer it. Our team can also switch it off for today in the Zogu console.

Does Zogu take card payments?

Not over the phone, and it never asks for card details. Orders go in unpaid.

Will Zogu use my POS promotions?

No. A meal deal set up as a menu item can still be ordered at its menu price.

What happens if my POS can't take the order?

The caller is asked to call back in a few minutes and the call ends. If the POS was only slow, the order may have gone through, so check for a duplicate if they ring back.
