How Zogu answers your phone and takes the order
A customer rings your Zogu number. Zogu says it's the automated ordering assistant, takes the order from your POS menu, reads it back once, sends it straight into your POS on a yes and hangs up. It can book a table the same way.
What happens on a call
Phone line → speech recognition → Zogu checks your live POS menu → spoken reply → your POS
- A customer calls your restaurant's Zogu number.
- Speech recognition turns their words into text and decides when they've finished.
- Zogu looks up what they asked for in your live POS menu.
- A voice speaks the reply, ending with a clear next step.
- After one read-back and a clear yes, the order goes into your POS.
Each restaurant has its own number, so the caller gets that restaurant's menu, hours and greeting: "Thanks for calling", your name, then "this is the automated ordering assistant." A number that isn't set up hears "Sorry, phone ordering isn't available right now. Please call back later. Goodbye." Zogu never guesses.
The read-back and the order in your POS
Once the caller says that's everything, Zogu can make up to two add-on offers (how add-on offers work). Then one read-back:
Zogu: "So that's one quarter-pound burger, one half-pound burger, one three-piece baklava and three Cola B cans, for pickup, under the name Sam."
It gives the total and how it's paid, then asks "Shall I place the order?" A clear yes places it. Correcting the name places it without a second read-back.
- The order reaches your POS with items, choices, notes, pickup or delivery, and the caller's name and number, marked to be paid on pickup or delivery.
- Zogu gives the total and ready time, says goodbye and hangs up. It doesn't wait for the kitchen.

When something goes wrong
Whatever breaks, the caller hears something. A slow AI model never ends a call on its own.
| What went wrong | What happens |
|---|---|
| The AI model hasn't started after 3 seconds | "One moment." and it asks again. |
| The turn still fails | "Sorry, could you say that again?" |
| Two turns fail in a row | "Sorry, I'm having trouble at my end. Please call back in a few minutes. Goodbye." |
| The caller goes quiet for 12 seconds | "Take your time. Let me know when you're ready." |
| Your POS can't take the order | "Sorry, I couldn't send your order through. Please call back in a few minutes. Goodbye." |
| Even the apology can't be spoken | The phone system reads out a short apology and hangs up. |
None of these lines offers a transfer or a call-back.
Setting up your restaurant
Five steps:
- Connect Zogu to your POS. Menu changes there reach the next call.
- We check your menu in our console and add delivery areas if you deliver (pickup and delivery by phone).
- We give you a number, greeting and voice (any of Deepgram Aura-2's 40 English voices).
- You forward your line to it.
- You test it and we fix what it missed on the Teach page.
The Teach page links phrases to items ("cheeseburger" means your Mega Burger) and sets how dish names are said, from the next call (the Teach page and call reviews).
What you see after each call
The order arrives in your till, and you accept or reject it as usual. Our console keeps each call as text: what was said, reply times, where the caller cut in, the order as sent and how it ended. No audio is recorded. More in the FAQ.
Questions and answers
What do I need to set up Zogu?
Your menu in a POS we work with, Zogu connected to it and a Zogu number. It doesn't work with any other POS system.
Does the AI model see my whole menu?
No. Zogu's own search finds the matching items and the model works from those. Totals come from Zogu's code.
What happens when I change my menu in my POS?
The next call uses the change, and anything hidden or out of hours isn't offered.
