Kebab shop phone orders, taken by an AI agent
Zogu answers your phone, takes the order from the menu in your POS, reads it back once and sends it to your till: lamb, chicken or mixed, the sauce, and shish said so callers recognise it.
When someone asks for a doner
Say your menu has LAMB DONER KEBAB, MIXED DONER KEBAB, LARGE LAMB DONER, MEAT & CHIPS and more:
| The caller says | The agent |
|---|---|
| "Can I have a doner kebab?" | "We've got the Lamb Doner Kebab, the Mixed Doner Kebab and the Chicken Doner Kebab. Which would you like?" |
| "A large doner." | "We've got the Large Lamb Doner and the Large Chicken Doner. Which would you like?" |
| "A large chicken doner, please." | Adds it without a question |
| "A large mixed doner." | Says it couldn't find one and offers three close items |
| "Doner meat and chips." | Adds the Meat and Chips |
The agent names a few real items and asks which. It leaves meals out unless asked, and it won't invent a large mixed.
Salad and sauce
The agent asks only about choices your menu marks as required, one at a time. Say the lamb doner has a required sauce of Garlic Mayo, Chilli Sauce or Mint Yoghurt:
- "A lamb doner with chilli sauce" isn't asked again.
- Three sauces where two are allowed gets "You can choose up to two for sauce."
- "No onions" picks your No Onion option, or goes on as a note for the kitchen.
- "With cheese" only works when the item has a cheese option. Otherwise the agent says so.
So put salad and sauce on your POS menu as options. If they aren't there, "with salad" can be told the kebab has no salad option.
How it says shish and lahmacun
The voice reads English spelling, so hard Turkish names are respelled just before they're spoken. Some of the built-in list:
| On the menu | The voice is given |
|---|---|
| Doner | donner |
| Iskender | iss-ken-dair |
| Sucuk | soo-jook |
| Cacik | jah-jik |
| Gozleme | gurz-leh-meh |
| Kunefe | koo-neh-feh |
Accents don't matter: Döner and DONER get the same respelling. Shish, lahmacun, kofte and halloumi sound right as written.
Your shop can save its own, such as "sheesh" for shish, on the Teach page, from the next call. Only the voice changes; your menu and your POS keep your spelling. Our team makes those changes for you. More on teaching the agent your menu words.
Other names for the dish
The agent treats common pairs as one dish.
- "Hummus" and "houmous" find the Houmus.
- "Tzatziki" finds the Cacik and "hellim" the Halloumi.
- "Lahmajun" finds the Lahmacun.
- "Kofta" gets "We've got the Adana Kofte Kebab and the Yoghurtlu Adana Kofte. Which would you like?"
A phrase it doesn't know, like "dolma" for YAPRAK SARMA, goes on the Teach page list, and linking it there works from the next call. More on how the agent understands callers.
Late nights and closing time
The agent follows your POS hours, including nights past midnight. With hours of 4pm to 2am:
- At 11:30pm, "what time do you close?" is told pickup is open until 2am tomorrow.
- At 3am the greeting says you're closed and open again at 4pm. It doesn't take orders for later.
- If a call is still going when your hours end, the order isn't sent.
- Pause orders in your POS and the agent treats the shop as closed until the time you set.
Questions and answers
Which EPOS systems does it work with?
Toast, Square, Clover, Oracle MICROS RES 3700 and Foodhub. It reads your menu and hours from your POS and sends orders back the same way.
Does it take delivery orders?
Yes. It checks the postcode against your delivery areas and offers pickup outside them.
What if we run out of lamb on a Friday night?
Take the lamb items off or hide them in your POS. The next call only offers what can be ordered.
Will it try to sell desserts and drinks?
Only once the caller says that's everything, and no more than twice. A no ends it, and add-ons can be switched off.
