Zogu cookie policy

[Draft for review by a UK solicitor. Not in force. Do not publish until that review is done and this line is removed.]

The Zogu website sets no cookies and puts nothing in your browser's storage. There's no analytics script and no advertising tag, so there's nothing to ask your consent for and no cookie banner.

Below is the list we check the site against, the two cookies our internal console sets for our own team, and what we'd do before the website ever stored anything that needs your say-so.

Last updated: [Date of last real change]. Last checked against: [site build or commit reference], on [date checked].

What this policy covers

This policy covers the Zogu website at [Website domain], run by [Company name] (company number [Company number]), registered at [Registered address]. In this policy, "we" means [Company name].

It doesn't cover phone calls. When you ring a restaurant's Zogu number, nothing is stored on your phone or in a browser. What we keep from a call (a text transcript, the order, the number you rang from and how the call ended) is explained in our Privacy Policy (UK), our Privacy Policy (US and California) and our AI disclosure and call transcripts page. We don't record call audio.

It also covers the internal console our team uses, because that does set two cookies. That's in its own section below.

What the website stores in your browser

Where we lookedWhat the Zogu website stores
Cookies (from our server or from scripts on the page)None
Local storageNone
Session storageNone
IndexedDBNone

To fill in this table we open every page of the published site in a fresh browser profile with nothing stored in it. We record every Set-Cookie header the server sends, every cookie a script writes, and everything that ends up in local storage, session storage and IndexedDB. Between those checks, a test in the site's build fails if any response sets a cookie or if the site's own scripts touch cookies, local storage, session storage or IndexedDB. The web demo doesn't store anything in your browser either.

The usual sources of cookies on other sites aren't here: no analytics, no advertising pixels, no embedded videos or maps, no social media buttons and no third-party chat widget. The site's fonts are served from the site itself, not from Google Fonts.

If our hosting provider's security tools ever set a cookie to tell people from bots, it will go in the table with its name, what it's for and how long it lasts. A cookie like that is strictly necessary to keep the site up, so it doesn't need consent, but you should still be able to see it listed here.

Analytics

The website has no analytics script. We don't use Google Analytics, a tracking pixel or anything else that follows you from page to page or from site to site.

The server that sends you a page does receive your IP address and the address of the page you asked for, because it can't send the page otherwise. No cookie is involved. The Privacy Policy (UK) and the Privacy Policy (US and California) cover those request logs, including how long we keep them.

If we add analytics later, we'll pick a tool that sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, and we'll name it on this page before it goes live. Analytics that did use cookies would wait for your consent, as set out below.

The Zogu console (our team only)

Restaurants don't have their own login yet. The console is an internal tool our team uses to set restaurants up, check menus and read call transcripts. It runs on a separate address, behind a Google sign-in handled by Cloudflare Access, and members of the public can't get into it.

It sets two cookies. Both are strictly necessary for the console to work:

NameSet byWhat it's forHow long it lasts
CF_AuthorizationCloudflare AccessKeeps a signed-in team member signed in[Session length set in Cloudflare Access]
console_flashZogu consoleShows a one-off message such as "Saved" after a form is sentUp to 60 seconds. It's deleted as soon as the message has been shown

Scripts on the page can't read console_flash, and the browser only sends it back to the console.

Checking and clearing cookies yourself

You don't need to do anything to stop the Zogu website storing things, because it doesn't. If you'd like to see for yourself, open your browser's developer tools and look under Application or Storage. They show every cookie and item of site data a page has stored.

Every major browser lets you view, block and delete cookies and site data in its privacy settings. Blocking them won't change how this site works.

Changes and contact

When we change what the site stores, we update the table and the "last updated" date at the top of this page. We don't move that date unless something on the page has changed.

Questions about this policy: [Contact email], or write to [Company name], [Registered address]. You can also use our contact page.

If you're in the UK and unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. We'd like the chance to put it right first.

Questions and answers

Does the Zogu website use cookies?

No. The website sets no cookies and stores nothing in local storage, session storage or IndexedDB. The table on this page shows where we looked and the date of the last check.

Does calling a restaurant's Zogu number store anything on my phone?

No. A phone call doesn't involve cookies or browser storage. We keep a text transcript of the call, the order, the number you rang from and how the call ended, as explained in our privacy policies and our AI disclosure page. We don't record call audio.

Do you use Google Analytics?

No. The site has no analytics script. If we add analytics, it will be a tool that sets no cookies, and we'll name it on this page before it goes live.
